After a week hitting theatres, “Rock of Ages” soundtracks jump onto the Billboard Top 200 at #9. The soundtrack features Foreigner hits “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Juke Box Hero” and “Waiting For A Girl Like You” – more songs than any other one band on the soundtrack – sung by stars Tom Cruise, Diego Boneta, and Julianne Hough. Soundscan numbers report digital downloads of “Juke Box Hero” were up 400%, and the Foreigner catalog has outsold The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Def Leppard, and Fleetwood Mac so far this year, proving the real star of “Rock of Ages” is the music.
Rita Ora is featured for VEVO’s next emerging artist LIFT promotion. Rita smashed onto the UK charts featuring on the No.1 hit by DJ Fresh’s “Hot Right Now.” With her brand new single “R.I.P.” taking the #1 spot on the charts, she is the first singer of 2012 to have two #1′s in the UK this year. Carly Rae Jepsen will perform a live show for all Cedar Point’s guests July 7. The 26-year-old singer from Vancouver is known for irresistibly catchy pop tunes that include “Call Me Maybe,” her smash single that has climbed to the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Her music video for the song has attracted more than 65 million viewers since it was released in March. She recently signed to Justin Bieber’s label, School Boy Records, but she’s been building a following in Canada since her 2007 run on Canadian Idol. She’s already racked up two gold-certified singles and won the Canadian Radio Music Award for Song of the Year in 2010.
“We knew her popularity was going to explode,” said Ross Phillips, regional marketing manager for Pepsi Beverages, who began making arrangements early this year to bring Jepsen to Cedar Point. “Pepsi is all about music – we’ve worked with top artists including Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and now Nicki Minaj – and Carly Rae was the perfect fit. Rufus Wainwright will take his new album Out of the Game out on the road with an 8-piece band this Spring & Summer for a highly anticipated North American tour. The new album of John Mayer, “Born and Raised”, will be released on May 22. But the first single, “Shadow Days,” will hit iTunes starting March 6. The album production is a result of collaboration between John Mayer, Don Was, and Columbia Records. David Crosby and Graham Nash are on vocals, Chuck Leavell on piano, Sean Hurley on bass, and Aaron Sterling on drums. Jim Keltner makes a special appearance on drums on “Something Like Olivia.” Rounding out the touring band are David Ryan Harris on guitar and vocals, Doug Pettibone on guitar and Michito Sanchez on percussion.
John Mayer will do an 18-date spring tour that kicks off April 9 in Bloomington, IN. Stops on the tour include Detroit, Providence, Buffalo, Memphis, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Phoenix. He will also be performing at South By Southwest in Austin on March 17, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 29.
