Reuning & Son Violins, in partnership with the family of the late Bernard Greenhouse, announced that Mr. Greenhouse’s Stradivari Violoncello of 1707, the “Paganini, Countess of Stainlein” will be sold by sealed bid. The “Paganini, Countess of Stainlein” is one of only 60 cellos remaining from the famous luthier Antonio Stradivari, who was more widely known for the roughly 600 violins he produced. Tarisio announced that they will sell the ‘Maazel’ Guadagnini violin of 1783 at their November 10, 2011 online auction. The violin has been owned and played by the world-renowned conductor Lorin Maazel for the past 66 years. All proceeds from the sale are to fund an endowment for young artist development at the Castleton Festival, the annual music festival founded by Maestro Maazel and his wife Dietlinde Turban-Maazel.
